  1. ****** About KBMenu Enabler 1.0.p******

Enabling Keyboard menu is not a secret, and most Mac users know how to use ResEdit to do that.  Sometimes working on ResEdit is not always easy, if you don't feel comfortable using ResEdit or you are not familiar with ResEdit, "KBMenu Enabler" will do this for you!  Version 1.0 was written in 68K Mac code, but we have not found any incompatibility report from the Power Mac users.  This version is recompiled specially for the Power Mac users like you if you feel more comfortable running native application.  Anyhow, this is a truly native Power Mac Application!

  7. Please be aware that using "KBMenu Enabler" is user's responsibility.  "KBMenu Enabler" will not damage your file, but if something happens due to user's being careless, Dragonsoft and the author are not responsible for any damage may happen to your "System" file.

  11. Apple recommends that users always work on the copy of system related files.  Please follow the steps described below to work on the copy of System file, or you
  12. may damage the System file if you edit it directly!

  14. ****** Using KBMenu Enabler ******
  15.  
  16. 1. Open the "System folder" and locate the "System" file.
  17.  
  18. 2. If your System file is not locked, you can simply select "Duplicate" from Finder's File menu or press command + D to make a copy of System file.  When the copy process is done, drag the "System Copy" to "KBMenu Enabler Folder."  Rename the "System Copy" to "System."

  20.     If your System file is locked, Option-drag the System file to "KBMenu Enabler(PPC)" Folder, release mouse button will then copy the file.

  22. 3. Open the "KBMenu Enabler(PPC)" Folder and make sure the copy of System file is named "System" if you used Duplicate command.

  24. 4. Make sure files "KBMenu Enabler 1.0.p," "KBMenu.on," "KBMenu.off," and "System (the copy)" are in the same folder.

  26. 5. Double-click to launch "KBMenu Enabler 1.0.p" application.

  28. 6. Select "Enable" from the File menu.
  29.  
  30. 7. After the process is done, quit the application.

  32. 8. Drag the original "System" file to the Trash (do not empty the Trash at this point).

  34. 9. Drag the copy of "System" file inside "KBMenu Enabler(PPC)" Folder to your System folder.

  36. 10. Restart your Mac.

  38. 11. After restarting your Mac, you should see an American flag on the Finder's menu bar.  This indicates that the Keyboard menu is enabled.  Use mouse to pull down the keyboard menu and select the keyboard layout you want.

  40. 12. Empty the trash to delete the old System file.

If all required files are not in the same folder when you launch KBMenu Enabler, you will get an error message; however, since we do not deal with System file directly, the application will not know if the copy of System file is in the folder.  Please make sure the System file is inside the KBMenu Enabler folder before you launch the application!

  48. Follow the same steps as above except step 4: select "Disable" from the File menu.

  50. ****** Compatibility ******

  52. This is a native Power Macintosh application, and please do not run it on the 680X0 Macs.
